Sound Deadening Material Installed – 1966 VW Beetle Project

I got the rest of the sound deadening material installed today. You may remember from a previous post that I installed sound deadening material in the roof as well. The product I used is called RoadBlockR™ Sound Deadening by SoundproofCow.  I also used a little bit of their 1″ thick Echo Absorber™ – Natural Blend product for the rear quarter panels.

I’m really happy with the results. All the shiny foil makes it look like a solar oven in there. Maybe I should break out some hot dogs and see if I can make lunch on it tomorrow… LOL!

Seat Frames/Springs Restored – 1966 VW Beetle Project

I got my seat frame backs from State Of Mind Customs today. Wow, do they look GREAT! As always, State Of Mind Customs did a FANTASTIC job.  Thanks John!

The seat frames and springs on the car were in bad shape… Rusty, chipped, and just dirty with 45 years of dirt/grime. They were completely functional though.

Here’s what State Of Mind Customs did: First, they media blasted all the springs and frames. They fixed the seat backs in some spots where welds had broken loose, and springs had detached, etc. Next, they epoxy primered all the springs and frames. Then they sprayed them all to match the interior trim color for the car. They also reinforced the front-seat seat bottom springs with some webbing. They basically weaved the webbing through the springs and then attached each spring using hog rings to the webbing. Many of the springs were in bad shape from being so old, so this really helps to reinforce them. It also makes all the springs work as one big spring, thus giving it a nice comfortable feel/support.  I can’t wait to get these things back together with the new seat covers and installed in the car!  =)

I only have three “before” pictures, but they give a pretty good idea of the condition they were all in. Here are some before/after pictures:
